MASTER ' S THESIS Reliable Multicast via Satellite
Title of Thesis: RELIABLE MULTICAST VIA SATELLITE Degree candidate: Stephen Marshall Payne Degree and year: Master of Science, 1999 Thesis directed by: Professor John S. Baras Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Many different reliable multicast protocols have been proposed and analyzed in the current literature. With advances in satellite technology, satellites have become more u...
متن کاملService Adaptive Multicast for Media Distribution Networks
Multicast technology is highly efficient for the large scale multimedia content service delivery. Its efficiency is maximized when all the service recipients have identical needs. In reality however, the end users may have a heterogeneous set of requirements for different service levels as well as different service components, depending on their system and network capabilities. We propose the n...
متن کاملReliable multicast via satellite: a comparison survey and taxonomy
IP multicasting is an important service, which will be provided by the next generation Internet. A range of applications has emerged which take advantage of multicast delivery. However, several factors currently hinder large-scale deployment of terrestrial multicast services. It is particularly difficult to support delivery to large groups of users. Satellites offer a natural way to extend the ...
متن کاملReliable Multicast via Satellite: Uni-directional versus Bi-directional Communication
We investigate reliable multicast communication over satellite networks. We compare a scenario where receivers can use a feedback channel to signal loss to a scenario where no feedback channel is available. We show that the introduction of a feedback channel is the key to allow for bandwidth-e cient, robust, and fully reliable multicast communication via satellite.
متن کاملAdaptive Reliable Multicast
An increasing number of applications, such as distributed interactive simulation, live auctions, distributed games and collaborative systems, require the network to provide a reliable multicast service. This service enables one sender to reliably transmit data to multiple receivers. Reliability is traditionally achieved by having receivers send negative acknowledgments (NACKs) to request from t...
